Last week Tift County CTI students participated in pre-employment training with Dr. Tonja Tift! Students learned the importance of being self-aware, recognizing their strengths, supports, and areas for growth. Dr. Tift emphasized how self-awareness helps us make better decisions about our actions, career paths, and college majors.
Students also completed a learning styles inventory to discover whether they learn best through auditory, visual, kinesthetic, or multi-sensory methods. One key takeaway was that everyone faces challenges and needs support at times—failure does not define you.

The Tift County School District is proud to announce a new initiative to employ our Work-Based Learning (WBL) students within the school system. This semester students are serving in a variety of roles where they are gaining hands-on experience under the guidance of skilled professionals. These positions provide students with meaningful, real-world learning opportunities while offering financial compensation for their contributions.
By investing in our students in this way, we are not only supporting their personal and professional growth but also cultivating and retaining talented individuals within our community. We look forward to expanding this program in the future, offering similar opportunities across additional departments in Tift County Schools.

Congratulations to this week’s outstanding student, Audrey Thomas, for dedication and a wonderful work ethic in class! Audrey was nominated by Dr. Melissa Busbin, who shared, "Audrey exemplifies the goals of PBIS through her compassion, hard work, and willingness to help others. While she sometimes struggles with coding at first, once she understands the concept, she immediately begins helping her classmates—walking behind them with her Chromebook and offering support just as a teacher would. She is always smiling, polite, and uplifting, making her a positive presence in the classroom. Audrey also demonstrates initiative and dedication outside of academics. When her class was tasked with cleaning out the audio-video lab, she did not hesitate to get to work. She swept floors, took out trash, organized shelves, and continued asking if more help was needed even as the task wrapped up. Through her actions, Audrey shows that she cares for herself, her community, and others. She represents the best of PBIS and ROTC values and serves as a model student for her peers."

🚀 Building on Yesterday’s Momentum – Celebrating Digital Citizenship Week! 🚀
As we recognize Digital Citizenship Week (October 20–24), Tift County is taking bold steps to ensure our students become not just consumers of technology—but informed, ethical, and empowered creators.
Today, Tift County High School CTAE student Justin Saylor, under the guidance of Dr. Melissa Busbin, helped lead a professional development session for teachers at Northside Elementary School as part of our district’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence pilot initiative.
Teachers explored three different educational robots, discovering how these tools build problem-solving skills, creativity, and digital responsibility in students from Pre-K through 5th grade.
This initiative began as a vision from Dr. Busbin, who developed the concept and secured grant funding to place Computer Science learning kits—combining robotics with literacy-based instructional materials—directly in elementary classrooms. Northside Elementary is our pilot school, with plans to expand across the district to increase equity, exposure, and opportunity for all Blue Devils.

“We are working together to provide amazing opportunities for our students—specifically in areas they don’t typically have exposure to.”

“Teaching every generation technology literacy is a non-negotiable.”
