Students in Mrs. Marzen's AP Bio participated in an electron lab where they removed chlorophyll from the chloroplasts of spinach leaves. The students then exposed the chlorophyll to light to excite the electrons. In the absence of the electron transport chain, the electrons release their energy in the form of red-violet light as they return to their ground state. In the pictures, students are observing the red-violet light fluorescing from the electrons. #BTTY #4theT

Congratulations to these amazing students for being chosen as a semifinalist for the Governor's Honors Program. GHP is for talented high school sophomores and juniors. It allows students to participate in a summer program on a college or university campus. The Tifton-Tift County Chamber of Commerce recognized the STAR Student from Tift County High School at their Chamber Membership Meeting. Jozef Abantao was Tift County High School's STAR Student and Jacob Thompson was the STAR Teacher. The Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) Foundation’s Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program honors Georgia’s highest-achieving high school seniors and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development. Since its creation in 1958, by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, the STAR program has honored nearly 29,000 students, who have in turn chosen their STAR Teachers to share in this recognition. Every accredited high school in Georgia is eligible to participate in this preeminent student/teacher academic recognition. To obtain the STAR nomination, students must have the highest score in one administration of the SAT when taken through the November test date of their senior year and must be in the top 10 percent of the top 10 students in their class. After being named, each Tift County student will go on to be recognized regionally. #BTTY #4theT
