School Closed for Students - Wednesday, January 3, 2018

Good Afternoon,

After participating in the 2:30 National Weather Service update, the decision has been made to cancel school for students tomorrow, January 3, 2018. All staff will be asked to report to work from 12:00-4:00 p.m. Tift County will soon be upgraded to Winter Warning status with the current predicted time of arrival between 4:00 and 10:00 a.m. Included in the warning is the possibility of ice accumulation, freezing rain, and snow.

All staff members are encouraged to monitor school correspondence for updates. If the arrival time of hazardous conditions changes, we may alter planned work hours.

While this is an experience many northern states and counties are accustomed to, we are not adequately prepared to safely transport students in icy conditions.

Early Dismissal Friday, Nov 17th

Faculty, Staff, Students, Parents and Guardians,

As our football program continues to enjoy success in the playoffs, we are also in
the midst of multiple other school activities. This Friday, with the combination of
fishing, swimming, wrestling, cheerleading, band, and yes football, we currently
have over 100 faculty, staff members, and bus drivers directly or indirectly
involved in these programs that will need additional time to safely travel and/or
transport our students not only home but also to appropriate extracurricular
activities. Currently we are short drivers and substitute teachers to accommodate
not only the needs of extracurricular activities but to adequately instruct and
supervise our student body.

In addition to the large number of faculty and staff needed for supervision, we are
experiencing a large volume of students requesting early release for safe travel.
The combination of faculty, staff, and approved student absences in conjunction
with Thanksgiving opportunities, has prompted me to call for a half day of school
this Friday, November 17, 2017. We will dismiss all students 3 ½ hours earlier than
a typical day. Ex. If your child is normally dismissed at 3:30, he/she will be
dismissed at 12:00.
Please contact your child’s school for specific details if needed.

Patrick Atwater,
Superintendent

TCHS will release at 11:30.
