TCHS holds College Probe Fair and Apply to College Day

The TCHS Guidance and Counseling Department hosted their annual College Probe Fair and Apply to College Day in November at the high school.

The Probe Fair is sponsored by the Georgia Education Articulation Committee. PROBE is an organized college fair tour that takes place throughout the state of Georgia. At the Tift County Probe Fair, there were 55 Colleges Admissions Representatives available to speak with students. The representatives will be available to discuss such topics as financial aid, housing, programs of study, admission’s requirements, scholarships, and campus life. TCHS Juniors and Seniors attended the fair getting available brochures and handouts on colleges of interest. Berrien County High School seniors were also given the opportunity to participate in the fair held at TCHS.

Students were given the opportunity to create barcodes; this was to prevent having to complete "information cards" at each college table. Instead of spending time hand-writing on hundreds of interest cards, students can take a few seconds to be scanned by a college and then use the rest of their time talking to the representative about that school.
The fair is a win, win situation. It gives the colleges an opportunity to meet our students face-to-face and learn about them, and it allows our students to find out more about colleges that they apply to online.

Teachers were also encouraged to wear a shirt representing the college they attended. There were shirts from many colleges including ABAC, VSU, UGA and as far away as Oklahoma.

Students ended the college events with the annual Apply to College Day on November 12th, 2014. Representatives from the TCHS Guidance and Counseling Department, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Moultrie Technical College, Middle Georgia State College, Army National Guard, Georgia Student Finance Commission, and volunteers assisted students with their application process throughout the event. Over 100 TCHS seniors participated and applied to college during the event.

Georgia Apply to College Day is an annual event sponsored by Communities in Schools, the Georgia Department of Education, the Georgia Independent College Association, the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education, the Georgia Student Finance Commission, the Technical College System of Georgia, and the University System of Georgia. The goal is to provide assistance to students have not yet apply to college, and encourage seniors to navigate through the college application process. This event serves as a valuable resource for students and parents who are not familiar with the college application process.
